Rick Warren on Charlie Rose

I just got done watching the first half.  It is quite thought provoking.  He speaks about working with all sorts of people to address the world wide AIDS crisis.  He speaks about working with Muslims and even ACT Up, the homosexual activist group.

He also speaks of a new tone of civility, all the while staying committed to his beliefs.

Looking forward to hearing Greg Boyd.  He is quite thoughtful and controversial too.  He has written a book called the Myth of a Christian Nation that is on my must read this fall list.

You can also find this at Barnes and Noble

I love PBS

Alright, I now I am getting old.  I was just commenting to my wife a few days ago how I have come to the realization that there are some cool things on PBS.  One of those things is the Charlie Rose show.

Rick Warren was recently on the Charlie Rose show and covered a wide range of topics.  Here is a link to what promises to be a very interesting interview.  Apparently Greg Boyd is on the show as well.

So is this heaven or hell?

From the story...

"It might sound like a chocoholic's dream, but stepping into a vat of bubbling chocolate became a two-hour nightmare for a 21-year-old man Friday morning."

Follow up on piece yesterday

Over the weekend I had a piece about the XXX church and Focus on the Family.

http://jeffberg.typepad.com/jeff/2006/08/what_fof_does_a.html

The XXX church people went to the FOF offices and here was their experience.

Update: After three phone calls to Focus on The Family and no call backs, we decided to go to Focus while we were in Colorado Springs today. The lady at the front counter happened to be at the church we spoke at yesterday in the Springs. We met at least three other people who were there who had great things to say about our talk yesterday. We could not get through to the person we needed, so we were told to take the "Focus Tour" and check back in a hour. We enjoyed the tour and checked back in an hour. We got a guy named Ken who came and told us that there were people that because of their constituencies they were unable to support us. He told us that was coming from the top down. That is their standard responce. For those who don't know what constituencies are. It means that people that support them will come to Focus expecting one thing and they can not support other ministries that do not hold up to the same values and beliefs. The same guy will tell you that Focus is not a Political Movement either...go figure! We tried and it looks like they will not be our friends after all. I do wish we had as many constituencies as they do. Yes constituencies is the word of the day. Look for a center box with constituencies coming soon.

What FOF Does and Does not Support

I don't know the context of this story, but apparently the XXX Church had is presentation canceled after a call to Colorado Springs.

And, James Dobson came out in support recently of Mel Gibson.

Anybody else find that interesting?

If you are not familiar with the ministry of XXXchurch they are worth a look.  They are pretty radical but are addressing the problem of Christians and porn in a powerful way.  They also have accountability software available.  I am not familiar with it but I assume it works the same way as the one I link to in my Internet tools.  http://x3watch.com/
