Adventures @ CHIC 2006

Good Afternoon.  A few quick observations from CHIC.

1.  WOW IS IT WARM!  96 and humid with warm weather on the horizon for the week.  One of the students said to me, "I have never sweat so much in my life."  I pushed back and said, "come on, you had to have perspired more at some time."  He thought about it, revised his comment and said, "Okay, I have never sweat so much when doing nothing in my whole life."

In spite of the heat we are in good cheer.

2.  Multi-Tasking is way overrated.  This morning, the first morning of the small groups my team is in charge of, I was running like crazy.  Twice I was trying to carry on a conversation with a person, while on the radio, while on the phone...with a person trying to beep in on my phone.  It is hard to keep your head on strait at times like that.

3.  DELTA AIRLINES - This was odd.  When those of us heading through Atlanta boarded the plane we were told it was to hot (103!) to fill up the gas tanks on the plane so it would be necessary to stop in Oklahoma City, halfway, to fill up the gas tank because it was not possible to get between Atlanta and Denver without stopping for gas (I think it was cheaper in OK).  So...we got to spend 75 minutes on the ground in Oklahoma City.  I would have loved to have deplaned as I had never been to Oklahoma, but alas we sat on the run way.  Also...7 people had to stay in Atlanta due to an oversold flight.  Ah, travel in 2006.

4.  CHIC - So far so good.  This morning I was walking around and checking in on my small groups and was really impressed that the students were entering into the worship even though it was considerably less "impressive" than what was done from main stage the night before.  It seems as if student today are hungry to worship and it is hard to keep 'em down!  Mainstage was great...Don Everts is a great speaker.

5.  CHRISTIANS MAKE A DIFFERENCE - I talked to a guy from New Orleans at the airport on Saturday.  He told me about how on every corner in his city are young people, from churches, helping to clean up his city.  It was amazing to him that these people would PAY MONEY OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS to come down and help him and his friends out....and he did not get it.  It was nice to hear that service is making people think and notice that something is different.

For some reason my computer is not hooking up to the wireless network.  I might not get any pictures up.  Sorry.

Keep praying for us.
