Jeff at the Rockies Game

I was able to, as the guest of a generous church member, attend game 4 of the World Series.  My camera battery was dead so I took these with my phone.  Sorry for the lousy quality.

Me before the first pitch.

I was down by the left field foul pole...a few feet from Manny.

The view from my seat.

In spite of the loss, it was great to be there.  Looking forward to 2008.

What is the fuss about?

Could someone explain to me how this is different than a coach trying to signal signs from a third base coach in baseball?  Isn't this part of the game?

ESPN.com, citing league sources, reported Tuesday that Goodell has determined the Patriots violated league rules Sunday when they videotaped defensive signals by the Jets' coaches. But the report also said the Patriots have not yet presented their case to the league.

Some love for the seahawks

Ranking the best teams in the NFL....

Link: ESPN Page 2 - The Sports Guy: Who is Lombardi bound? Plus week 1 picks.

2. Seattle I wrote it last week, I'll write it again: Everyone is sleeping on these guys. They finished 9-7 during a season when nearly everything went wrong; now they're healthy and happy; they dumped their clubhouse cancer guys; they added a pass rusher (Patrick Kerney) and an overqualified defensive assistant (Jim Mora Jr., who nearly made the Super Bowl 30 months ago); they're playing in one of the easiest divisions (the NFC West); and they'll probably be favored in every 2007 game except Pittsburgh in Week 5 and Philly in Week 12. And it's not like they haven't done it before. Throw in their homefield advantage and skill position guys and they seem like the safest bet in the NFC.

So why can you currently get 25-to-1 Super Bowl odds for them in Vegas? Because it's no fun to pick the Seahawks. They've been there before, they play in a smaller market, they have a bald quarterback, their uniforms are boring, their best player is boring, their coach looks like he should be wearing a sheriff's outfit and buying donuts, and if you say you've met more than three Seahawks fans in your entire life and you're not from Seattle, you're lying. Really, the only thing that stands out about them is their crowd. Switch their roster with Dallas' roster and they'd be 7-to-1 odds right now. Since they're in Seattle, nobody cares yet. But you will. Give it a couple of months.

Jeff's Fearless Superbowl Prediction

Are you ready for this?  Colts 30, Bears 17.  I see the Colts winning big and here is why...

1.  The Character Factor - Character matters!  Time and time again we see the team with the most people who are willing to work hard and make the extra effort win.  The Bears have more players who tote guns and openly admit they were thinking about going out to drink during a game on New Year's eve.

2.  The Monkey Factor - The monkey is off the back of the Colts.  With their win last week against the Pats, that extra weight is gone...look for them to fly.

3.  The Defense Factor - The Bears just do not have the same defense as they did earlier in the year.  The injuries they have experienced have turned them from the best defense to one that is average.  For as much as Jack Buck was raving on TV about the Bears defense being back, it seemed to me like the Seahawks and Saints did not execute on offense.  On the Colts side of the ball, with Bob Sander's back they are much more effective on...one that will have a field day with Rex Grossman.

4.  The Experience Factor - Yes, I know that the Colts do not have Superbowl experience, but they have played more games on a national platform.  They know what it at stake here and how hard it is to get to the big game.  The Bears do not.

5.  The Venturi Factor - While I think this game will not come down to a field goal, should it, having the pride of the Jack Rabbits on your sideline gives you huge confidence.  Just knowing he is there is an edge.

6.  The Implosion Factor - Rex Grossman would be the goat of the playoffs had the Seahawks held on to some of his errant throws.  Devon Hester is capable of a big return or a disastrous fumble.  The Colts are more disciplined with the ball.

As I see it, the only thing that tightens this game up is poor weather.  If the Bears can make it a slug fest, they have a chance.  But don't look for that to happen.

Colt's win easy and Manning puts the finishing touch on his Hall of Fame credentials.
